Established in 1992, the Bourne Friends Food Pantry is a non-profit organization, under the auspices of the Friends of Bourne Council on Aging, Inc. The mission of the Food Pantry is to assist individuals and families in the town of Bourne that do not have the resources to provide themselves or their families with adequate nutrition.
The Pantry’s dedicated staff of 30+ volunteers, supervised by the Program Coordinator, is responsible for The Food Pantry’s weekly operation.
Today, the Bourne Friends Food Pantry serves more than 400 families, an average of 650+ individuals receive food each month. Twenty-three percent (23%) of the individuals served are senior citizens. At Thanksgiving, special holiday baskets are prepared and distributed. At Christmas, holiday foods are also available. Food is purchased primarily through the Greater Boston Food Bank or locally, at discounted costs. The Pantry is also a recipient of an annual $1500 grant from Project Bread, the Walk for Hunger.
The Pantry provides referrals and resource information for the many services available to clients: Council on Aging Outreach, WIC, fuel assistance, Food Stamps, etc.

Clients in crisis, those newly unemployed or underemployed will also be served. None are turned away, but if not eligible for future Pantry pickups, the client will be referred to the appropriate resource.
Clients may come to the Pantry once a month to obtain food products equivalent to three to five days of groceries, depending on the number in the family. If a client is experiencing extreme hardship, exceptions to the once a month distribution will be made. Both perishable and non-perishable foods are distributed. For clients who are disabled or homebound, the Food Pantry volunteers will make home deliveries subsequent to an inital face to face interview at the Food Pantry.
